Scott Lee has worked over 22 years in the public sector.  His career began at a non-profit organization in Los Angeles where he managed public and private grants serving low-income communities.  He also directed youth advocacy groups and facilitated multi-cultural projects aimed to promote unity through diversity. 

 

Scott joined the City of Los Angeles in 2000 as the Business Develpment Director of the LA Youth Opportunity Movement in Watts and later promoted to the Executive Director.  In 2010 he transitioned to the Economic and Workforce Development Department as the South Region Deputy Director and Special Grants Administrator overseeing special initiatives and workforce development programs.  

 

In 2014 Scott transitioned to the Boyle Heights Technology YouthSource Center and currently serves as the Executive Director.  He holds a Masters in Public Administration.

Victor Gutierrez has been with the City of Los Angeles for his entire career life. He has worked for the same department, Economic and Workforce Development Department, for over 20 years.

 

Victor has been assisting the public and residents of the City of Los angeles for the majority of those years. His first position was a clerical staff. He assisted with the Census 2000 and now he enjoys working as a Career Coach with the Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement assisting young adults and the community of Boyle Heights.

Antonio Aguilar was born and raised in the community of Boyle Heights. He attended local schools in the area. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Antonio was admitted to and attended Cal State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

 

He worked in government as a field representative for Assemblywoman Hilda L. Solis, District Office Chief of Staff for State Senator Solis, Parent Liaison for the Los Angeles Unified School District, Field Deputy to Councilmember Nick Pacheco and currently a career coach and LARCA Administrator for the City of Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement Boyle Heights at the Technology Center.

Joe Diaz

Joe Diaz was born and raised in Boyle Heights. He and his 7 brother grew up in the Pico-Aliso Housing Projects, a couple miles east of Downtown. Joe is a graduate of Roosevelt High School.

 

His working repertoire includes Esperanza Community Housing, LA Conservation Corps (9 years) and Homeboy Industries (4 years). In 2000, Joe was hired to work with the Los Angeles Youth Opportunity Movement-Boyle Heights as a career coach.

Sara Puma is a Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Pupil Services and Attendance Counselor (PSAC) who has been with the district since 2000 and has a Masters in Counseling from Clas State University, Los Angeles.

 

Ms. Puma is assigned to the Boyle Heights YouthSource Center as part of the Economic and Workforce Development Department and LAUSD partnership which targets and recovers youth who have dropped out of school.

Elisa Lam

Elisa Lam graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development.   Before becoming a City of Los Angeles employee, Elisa worked in community based organizations focusing on domestic violence, mentoring and residential facilitation. 

 

Over the past ten years as a City employee, she started working as a Recreation Coordinator for the Department of Recreation and Parks. From there she moved to the Griffith Observatory as a Volunteer Coordinator, and In 2007, began her community building and youth empowerment work at the Commission for Children, Youth and Families.  Following her desire to continue empowering youth, she transitioned to the Economic and Workforce Development Department in 2010 to work in the Youth Opportunity Movement program and joined the Boyle Heights Technology YouthSource Center team in 2014.

MaryD is an Angelino native.  She has worked for the City of Los Angeles for over 10 years with 29 years of professional experience in human services. She has worked under various federal, city, and county grants:from JTPA through WIA. She serves ages 14-91. She really enjoys her work and serving the community. She is an alumni of Antioch University Los Angeles.

Juan Antonio Romero was born and raised in Boyle Heights. He has been living in El Sereno for the past 11 years.

 

Juan graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. Juan has been involved in social services for the past 22 years. Juan’s strengths are in community building, youth programming, and empowerment.

Marco Covarrubias

Marco Covarrubias graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a minor in Political Science. Before joining El Centro de Ayuda and the Boyle Heights Technology YouthSource Center, Marco worked for Pasadena City College and the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation. He worked with youth focusing at various times on tutoring, college readiness, career mentoring, and environmental and social justice.

Driven by his passion for empowering youth and their communities, Marco joined El Centro de Ayuda and, through a partnership with the city, the Boyle Heights YouthSource Center team in September 2017. He provides career coaching and facilitates youth workshops.

Tanisha Wilson-Lyles

Tanisha Wilson-Lyles graduated from Saint Mary’s Academy and Cal State University, Los Angeles and majored in Marketing Management. After completing high school, she worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company in Operator Services for 7 years. Tanisha has also worked as an Inspector for the County of Los Angeles Election Division since 2005. Tanisha now works as a Career Pathfinder for WIOA, LARCA, and JAG Grants.
